Extremely crisp and dense with fine-grained flesh, the Pink Lady apple has a pleasantly tart flavor and natural sweetness. While it's excellent for baking, this apple is also a smart choice for salads, as it tends to be resistant to browning. The attractive, bi-colored fruit is generally medium-sized and conical-shaped, making it perfect to pack for a midday snack.
Apples are best used in fresh preparations, as their flesh does not hold up well when cooked. Add to green, fruit, and chopped salads. Use as an edible garnish on sandwiches, quesadillas, and burgers.
The optimum storage temperature for apples depends on the variety, but all are within the range from 30 to 40 F. Apples are moderately susceptible to freeze damage. Temperatures more than 1 or 2 degrees below freezing should be avoided.
